The Montreal Chamber Music Society (MCMS) is THE new musical institution in Québec. Founded in the year 2000 by pianist Patrice Laréand cellist Velitchka Yotcheva, who became the Artistic Director, MCMS is entirely dedicated to offering high quality concerts and promoting chamber music in all its facets through the performances of artists with international reputation here and abroad. The society’s repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary music – further illustrated by the six suites for solo cello by Bach that Mrs. Yotcheva performed during the 2005-2006 season and the concerto for cello and chamber orchestra commissioned for the 2012-2013 season from one of the greatest Canadian composers, Maestro José Evangelista.

As eclecticism is one of the key elements of MCMS, in addition to offering a full repertoire of chamber music delivered by great performers, the society is pleased to showcase the innovative I Cellisti orchestra, an ensemble of twelve cellos (Canada’s first) whose first album was released in 2010 on the Disques XXI-21 label. In addition the I Cellisti orchestra contributes significantly to the promotion of classical music among young people, as most of the twelve cellists are young professional musicians.

The Montreal Chamber Music Society offers three concert series each year: at the new hall of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra; at the Bourgie Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal and finally at the Chapelle Historique du Bon Pasteur. The MCMS is proud to remain close to its audience. In fact, the musicians make short presentations on stage and comment on the pieces they are going to perform. They are also available at the reception, which follows each concert, to meet with their audience and discuss a particular performance or other classical music pieces.

Gaining momentum at an international level, the MCMS also invites foreign artists to enrich its musical repertoire. The original approach of having guest performers and Quebec musicians play together magnifies the pleasurable experience. Similarly, the Society’s resident musicians and the I Cellisti orchestra travel across the province and also abroad.

The Montreal Chamber Music Society, although still young, already proudly occupies a prominent place among the events of Quebec’s greatest metropolis and significantly enriches the heritage of Canadian culture.

The Montreal Chamber Music Society is an incorporated non-profit organization.
